Giants Win Season Opener!

The New York Giants defeated the Washington Redskins in their season opener at the Meadowlands, 16-7.

After losing five defensive starters this off-season, some felt the Giants would struggle. The defense surprised many, because they held the Redskins to 11 first downs and 209 yards.

“We played well and it’s no surprise to us,” Giants defensive tackle Barry Cofield said. “We feel like we got capable guys and we held them for very few yards other than the two-minute situations where the got most of their yardage. We are confident in our defense and feel like if we stick with the scheme we’ll have success all year.”

Super Bowl MVP, Eli Manning finished with 216 yards, 1 interception, 1 touchdown and he completed 19 of his 35 passing attempts. Manning scored the Giants first touchdown on the season with a 1 yard drive.

“It was a great opening to the season,” said Manning. “There was a lot of emotion, a lot of excitement. You could feel it in the crowd. It was great to see Michael holding the trophy. It was a great crowd. They were fired up. It was good to play well at home and to win a game at home. It’s been a while.”

Giants receiver, Plaxico Burress had 133 yards with 10 receptions. Burress recently signed a two-year contract extension with the Giants. Running back, Brandon Jacobs rushed for 116 yards.

Giants middle linebacker, Antonio Pierce is not thinking about another Super Bowl because winning the division is his goal. “We are not worried about what people are saying,” Pierce said. “We are trying to win games. You have to get to the Super Bowl to repeat, and if we don’t make the playoffs if won’t matter. Right now our goal is to win the division. You win the division and the playoffs and then you think about repeating.”

Redskins rookie head coach, Jim Zorn wasn’t happy with his teams performance. He was concern with the amount of first downs the Redskins had. “The thing that hurt us was not converting those first downs when we had the opportunity,” Zorn said. “We had third-and-6 and we’d made 5. We’d have third-and-9 and make 8 1/2 . We’d have third-and-7 and make 6. We just couldn’t get over that line.”

Redskins quarterback, Jason Campbell completed 15 of his 27 passing attempts. He finished with 133 yards. Redskins struggled in the beginning and Campbell felts that caused them to suffer throughout the game.

Running Back, Clinton Portis rushed for 84 yards with 23 carries.. “A team held us to three and out for over half the game,” said Portis. “We have to be better than that.”

Wide Receiver, Antwaan Randle El had 73 yards with 7 receptions and Santana Moss had 5 receptions, 37 yards with one touchdown.

Oh…you almost made it. I was going to give you the benefit of the doubt right up until this point:

“He was concern with the amount of first downs the Redskins had.”

    - Concerned!

“Redskins struggled in the beginning and Campbell felts that caused them to suffer throughout the game.”

    - I just don’t know how I “felts” about this sentence.

It’s better, not quite as many errors. Still might want to ask dear mother Thomas if she can drop you off at the Sylvan Center before her afternoon shift at The Stinky Pinky.
