The Philadelphia Phillies defeated the New York Mets, 8-6. Now the Phillies are alone at the top of the National League East division.
“His mistake was not giving the ball up,” said Rollins, the Phillies shortstop. “He already made the highlights by making the barehanded grab.”
Rollins had one run, one hit with two RBIs.
Phillies second basemen, Chase Utley went hitless with five at bats.
Left fielder, Pat Burrell had four at bats with one run and two hits.
Center fielder, Shane Victorino had two at bats with two runs.
“Big play of the game was Victorino beating the ball down to second base,” said Phillies manager Charlie Manuel. “That’s why we talk about hustle.”
Phillies starting pitcher, Joe Blanton pitched his first game with the Phillies. He pitched six innings, and allowed eight hits and two home runs.
The Phillies rallied in the ninth inning for six runs. That gave them their victory.
Mets shortstop, Jose Reyes went hitless, but received one run. Right fielder, Endy Chavez had four at bats with three hits and one run. Third basemen, David Wright had one run with five at bats and two hits.
Mets center fielder, Carlos Beltran went hitless with no runs. First basemen, Carlos Delgado had five at bats and two RBIs with one home run. Catcher, Ramon Castro had two hits (including one home run)with two RBIs and four at bats.
“After seeing that, you can’t help feeling that you want to be out there,” said Wagner, who is day-to-day. “A lot of different things might have happened if I was out there. I’d rather be the guy standing here taking the blame instead of letting my teammates suck on this one.”
Mets starting pitcher, Johan Santana pitched eight innings allowed two runs and had four strikeouts.
