The New York Mets were ruin with St. Louis Cardinals first basemen, Albert Pujols two-run home run in the fourteenth inning. This gave the Cardinals the victory, 10-8.
“You want to know whether we’re gutsy or not? Watch that game,” Cardinals manager Tony La Russa said.
Pujols finished the game with three RBIs, one home run and 5-8 at the plate.
“We got the win, man, that’s what it’s about,” said Pujols. “To stop our losing streak is huge. Sometimes things like this get a ballclub going.”
Cardinals left fielder, Skip Schumaker had seven at bats with three runs and six hits. “I’m happy for him,” Pujols said. “It was a great win.”
Cardinals pitcher, Joel Pineiro pitched four innings, allowed ten hits, two home runs and had two strike outs.
Mets manager, Jerry Manuel believes his team had chances but couldn’t succeed. “We had chances, we just couldn’t push it across,” Manuel said. “It was just one of those nights.”
Mets first basemen, Carlos Delgado went two for six with two home runs and three RBIs. Short stop, Jose Reyes had eight at bats with two runs. Third basemen, David Wright had six at bats with one run and two hits. Center fielder, Carlos Beltran had three RBIs with one run.
Mets minor league pitcher, Brandon Knight pitched five innings. He allowed seven hits, four runs and had four strike outs. “I wasn’t nervous at all,” said Knight. “You know you are in New York when you get booed.”
